RE: Refrigerator no working on gas

If its like my hot water heater, then the "On" light is SUPPOSED to go out when the burner begins operating.
After to switching to gas, and the light goes out, have you gone outside and verifyed that the gas is not lit??

RE: U.S.95 from Blyth to Needles, CA - worst road in America

Glad to see you folks badmouthing that road. Should lessen the traffic when I am out there on it.
Me suspects too many of you are trying to drive it like a 4 lane freeway rather than the 2 lane desolate hiway that it is.

Made In China

Boy, how many threads do we see about this subject?? Or how many comments are always posted about products that folks have bought?
Alot of you are not old enough to remember but at one time, probably 50 yrs ago, this bashing was directed at "Made in Japan". And, since it was not so very long before that that we had just ended a war with them, it was very popular to critize them. Or, if you lived in the Soutwest, it was "Made in Mexico". Hardly ever hear anything about those two today.
It was so bad about the Japanese products that there was a small town in Japan that had hundreds of manufacturers flocking there to open plants or offices, so that they could legally stamp/mark their products, "Made in Usa". This small town of Usa became really popular.
I kinda suspect that we're seeing the same hysteria being postulated today with the "Made in China" products. Granted, there are some poorly made products coming out of there, but its no different than it was with the early Japanese products. Same gripes, same type of stories.
But today, with the Internet, and the instantaneous impact of TV, the stories get spread far and wide quickly. The stories are no longer spread by word of mouth, and eventually, town to town.
And, like the Japanese products, I think that, 30-40 years down the road, this'll all be water under the bridge and only those with a deep seated personal vendetta against China, will continue the bashing.

RE: Load G Tires

Aussie01:: The G159's are obsolete and no longer mfgd. Replaced by the G614's.
After three blowouts w/G159's, which GY replaced and paid for damages, they told me the third time, to go get 5 G614's on them.
That was about 3-3 1/2 yrs ago. 51K miles later, no probs.
Once in Missoula MT, a dealer did mount another brand "G" rated tire on my rim (did'nt have a G159), but the tire physically, was too big around and gave no clearance between the other tire. Can't for the life of me remember the brand today. Had a tread like it was off a lo boy trailer.
Bite the bullet and replace'um.

RE: Brake Drum\Hub Temperature

I have no way to measure mine but I think I'd be concerned about the melt temp of the bearing grease I'm using and use that as a warning/alarm point.

RE: Decent 12v coffee maker???

I have a small "pocket size" inverter for the laptop, 175 watt, so if need be i could use 120. But like i said before propane will be hard to come by where we are going so its just not that simple, tough call! How long to percolators take?
But a 12vdc pot is gonna use 800-1300 watts so your 175 watt inverter won't do the job.
Given the area you'll be traveling through, you might want to opt for a "hang over the fire" camp coffee pot.
Just be careful when it comes to refilling your propane tank that you in fact get PROPANE. Theres alot of BUTANE in use there in villages in small tanks for household use.
DON'T MIX THEM!

RE: How Fast to Drive?

You're gonna start out through some HOT country there to the GC ( and back). Got to remember what speed does to your tires. Your trailer is probably gonna be kinda heavy, so keep that all in mind.
Don't wanna be spending too much time in tire shops while on vacation.

RE: Goodyear tires

The orig poster is talking about GY's "G" range tires (110psi), that run about $250 (avg) each.
No one else makes them in this load range (3750lbs single)!!
No one is gonna sell you road hazard insurance on this type of heavy duty tire. BUT,BUT, GY will stand behind this tire 110% if you have a problem with it.
ALL your comments have to do with lesser capacity tires.
Now if you run over a nail and get a flat, thats on you. Big deal! Fix it and move on with your life. You can fix several flats for what some of these tire sellers get for Road Hazard insurance.
Get some damage to your rig from the flat and GY's Property Damage Claim folks will make you whole everytime.
GY's got almost $14,000 invested in my trlr from damage caused by an older version (the G159) of their current G614 tire.

RE: natural gas in my DuraMax

Propane injection is a very common accessory that the diesel "gearheads" opt for when visiting the drag strip. Simple to set up and switch on/off. I know of one fulltimer that swears by it when hes motoring in the west.
Just need a good set of gauges to monitor engine outputs.

RE: Packing wheel bearings

One thing consistantly overlooked when greasing bearings is to pay attention to the pivot point that the magnet arm rotates on at the top of the hub, between the two shoes.
MAKE SURE that the magnet arm is free to swing back and forth. It takes only a very light coating of anti-seize lube on the pivot stud to ensure that you'll not have a dragging or stuck brake the next time you use them.
Even a small amount of corrosion on the pivot stud or the inside of the pivot sleeve bearing must be removed. Emery cloth is a good tool here.

It sounds good but I would ask about the weight that it will add to your rig.
LineX or Rhino coatings would really add alot of weight. It sure did to my truck.
